Growing Veins

Recently J told me that he had some pains in his feet.  I asked him what happened and he told me it was because he was growing veins in his feet.  Growing veins   ??

Turns out that a couple days prior T told J that the pains in his feet were probably due to growing pains.

Ha, ha   – growing veins….

All the kiddies got to attend soccer camp this summer.  To our surprise, J received the dubious honor of being the ‘Wacky Wednesday’ winner.  Apparently, he had the wackiest costume and dance.  The great part was that I had nothing to do with it.  I suspect that B convinced J to wear an old dress of hers.  He must have looked hilarious.  Wish I had pictures.  J was a bit embarrassed at winning – but at least I got that bit on video.

Today I visited a violin repair shop.  The store was lined with dozens of violins, violas, cellos, and horse hair bows of all sizes and various stages of repair.  The shelves, some of instruments, the furniture and windows all seemed to be covered in a fine layer of dust.   The proprietor seemed to fit in with the musty atmosphere.

And all this in the Castle Green.  Afterwards, I poked my head into the old lobby with its arched ceilings, colonnades, and ornate banisters.  The architecture of the Castle Green is difficult to describe.  Old buildings fascinate me.   Here’s what it used to look like in the 1898.  Castle Green (right) is actually the annex for the famous Hotel Green (left).  I didn’t realize that there was a bridge that spanned the street.

Here’s another grand hotel that used to be in the same general area: the Raymond Hotel built in 1886.

Now Raymond Hill is dense with apartment complexes crowded one against the other.

Kinda sad to me.

funnies

been a long time since posting... just haven't felt like it.

on sunday night, s told me that she forgot to take her gym clothes out of her backpack last friday and asked whether I can start a load of color laundry.  so, I managed to wash the load and get it in the dryer before going to bed.  in the morning, I rummaged through the dryer, pulled out the shirt and shorts and handed them to s.

last night, s says to me, "uhhh, mom, you gave me dad's basketball shorts."

what??
upon closer inspection, I have found that t’s basketball shorts and s's gym shorts look remarkable similar - except t’s shorts are about 7" bigger around the waist.  I asked her how she managed during gym class.  apparently she cinched her sweater around her waist to keep the shorts up while she played kick ball in class.

everyday after school, I ask j how things went.  I usually ask if he helped anyone that day.

J:  yes, I helped ____ (the little girl who sits next to him) because she was crying.

Me:  aww… what happened?

J:  she was crying because someone called her a cheater

Me:  oh no.  how did you help her?

J:  I was the one who told her that someone called her a cheater.

Glad and Sad

GLAD  that j is doing so much better.  thank you, GOD!

after missing almost the entire week of school, j finally gets to go to school for half day.  j has a big smile on his face 'cuz he knows he's going to be seeing his classmates.  we walk in to class already in session; the whole class turns around, takes a collective breath, and starts to murmur...

"it's j..."   "j's back.."  "it's j…"
the volume continues to rise until some of the boys are out of their seats, standing, jumping with their arms in the air, and chanting, "j's back!  j's back!"

j is a little embarrassed by all this attention.  so funny.

Here's my little cowboy breathing easy at a recent field trip...

SAD  that t is delayed.  don't know when he will catch another flight.  we love you and miss you alot, ALOT!!  This picture should make you smile.
